Kids Cafe provides children with dinner five nights a week during the school year. In the summer, kids are served lunch, as well. True to its name, After School Snacks serves nutritious snacks to kids after school to supplement the meals served at school and through Kids Cafe. Recognizing that many of the kids served in the Kids Cafe Program do not have access to regular meals over the weekend, the food bank created the Totes of Hope-Children Program. Children served at Kids Cafes in the food bank’s most poverty-stricken service areas take home totes filled with 8 to 9 pounds of food to eat over the weekend. They return the totes the next week to be used again.
Dedicated to providing nutritious food to Colorado residents who need it most, Food Bank of the Rockies distributes food to more than 1,000 programs to fight hunger across the state. With an estimated 160,000 children in need within the organization’s area of operations alone, nearly half of the food processed through the food bank’s warehouse is fed to children. In order to address this need, Food Bank of the Rockies operates three food programs just for kids: Kids Cafe, After School Snacks, and Totes of Hope-Children.
